Located in Lake County, about 2 hours north of San Francisco, Kelseyville has a rich agricultural history and a charming downtown main street with bespoke shops, eateries, and numerous annual events that draw visitors from across Northern California. One block off of Main Street is the event center, which is situated such that it holds the potential to act as an anchor to Main Street while also mitigating the scale change that occurs from Main Street to the residential neighborhood on the other side of the event center. Thus a primary strategy for the new event center is to strengthen the relationships of the event center to Main Street and the fabric of downtown Kelseyville, as well as to the broader context of Lake County.
During the Master Planning phase, Endemic Architecture outlined three qualitative criteria as guiding principles for design; contextual elements, physical elements, and emotional elements. Each of these address varying scales, site/context, program, and social conditions for the new facility while emphasizing new and better relationships of the center to the existing adjacent park and to Main Street.
Consisting of a 1,000sf event hall, full scale commercial kitchen that doubles as a cottage industry incubator, staff office & support services, media services, and classrooms for a variety of educational programming, the design for the new Kelseyille Senior Event Center intends to strengthen and expand local connections while presenting a distinguished building to the Lake County community.
