Another Victorian is a conceptual drawing project commissioned to examine how regulatory and representational codes shape contemporary architecture. Rather than treating codes purely as strict legal rules, the drawing expands the definition of "drawing codes" to include the political, aesthetic, and representational standards embedded within municipal planning and historic preservation documents. By deliberately drawing historically significant architectural features "wrong," the work explores how conventional presentation techniques can be manipulated to frustrate the legibility of a building form, ultimately subverting and perverting entrenched city regulations.

The project begins with a precise re-drawing of San Francisco’s famed Haas-Lilienthal House, a historic Queen Anne-style landmark. Far from a direct copy, the final composition layers current, strict San Francisco planning and preservation codes directly onto the historic house, distorting its original form through intentional manipulation.

Classic Victorian elements—including bay windows, porticos, dormers, gables, stairs, and turrets—undergo dramatic formal, spatial, and compositional alterations. These geometric distortions are paired with the exaggeration of common building materials, replacing traditional finishes with uncanny architectural effects like "fat rolls," rubble-strewn staircases, and shaggy, oversized shingles to test the absolute limits of regulatory compliance.
