Five Part Play is a proposal for a temporary performance stage in a bucolic Midwestern setting at the Ragdale Foundation. Five Part Play is likened to an arcade of 'rooms' where multiple scenes and performances play out simultaneously in both related and unrelated orchestration. Considering this possibility that multiple stories, acts, or scenarios might occur at the same time and in approximately the same place, Five Part Play is a proposal for an open stage with a backdrop of 4 cylindrical rooms open to the audience but relatively closed to each other. This arrangement allows for the possibility of multiple performances to occur simultaneously – perhaps each one unrelated to the one adjacent – or, alternatively for a single performance that activates all five rooms simultaneously in a coherent, orchestrated act.
